CHAIN SLINGS IN A SEGMENT-MODULAR EXECUTION
WLL COMPARISON BETWEEN GRADE 80 AND GRADE 100 CHAIN SLINGS
The grade 100 chains and equipments have a 25% bigger WLL than the grade 80 items. That allows a smaller diameter of lifting chain and componenets to be used for lifting the same load. However, it must be noticed that up to 16 mm the grade 100 items can only partly substitute the grade 80 items. The bottom chart clarifies this – it is shown a WLL comparison between grade 100 and grade 80 with the most common types of chain slings (with 1 to 4 legs and lifting angel of 45 and 45-60°). For example, for lifting of a load of 2400 kg with a single-legged sling you may use both 10 mm chain grade 80 and 8 mm chain grade 100. The weight of 1 meter of the 8 mm chain grade 100 is significantly smaller than the weight of 1 meter of the 10 mm chain grade 80. That spares approx. 37% of the whole single-legged sling’s weight. If the sling is with longer legs the weight difference gets even bigger. In this case the use of a grade 100 chain gives an advantage because the whole sling gets lighter. However, if you must lift load of 2800 kg with a single-legged sling, you may only use 10 mm chain, no matter the grade. So, in that case grade 100 chains do not give any advantage.
With the bellow shown comparing chart you can easily and quickly choose the chain grade which is most appropriate for you.
